Get Involved!(Copy of Mass Email sent June 10/08) Dear Friends and Colleagues: We often use our extensive email contact list to invite you to fun events that we know of or may be hosting. We rarely use it to ask for support. Invariably when we do use it for support it is for someone else's cause. However, in this email we are asking for each recipient to consider offering support to a cause that we are deeply concerned about as it deals with a threat to our home community. We are making a special, personal request that you make the time & effort to attend one of two meetings and offer your support in whatever way you can help us plan for and execute an "Awareness (concert) Rally" in Kew Beach Park on August 24, 2008 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM for our cause: First and second meeting held at: Beaches Rec Centre, 6 Williamson Road, Toronto M4E 1K5 - Room # 4 7:00 pm - Wednesday June 11, 2008 Or Thursday June 12, 2008 As you may know we live in the lovely, historic Beach neighbourhood which boasts miles of parkland bordering the beaches that run from the east end of Queen Street East to Coxwell Ave. Recently a building proposal was made to tear down a single, historic home at the foot of Neville Park Ave. at the beach and replace it with a multi-story, multi-unit condominium apartment building. The building proposed by the developers far exceeds what current city bylaws allow and so the developers have applied for an accommodation. If approved a precedent would be set to allow this type of structure to be built on the lakefront, thereby opening a floodgate of development along the Beach that will forever alter the neighbourhood and that Toronto residents would not be able to stop. The Beach would soon look like Harbourfront and so the residential, park-filled neighbourhood would be lost to Toronto residents and visitors forever. The Beach is for everyone to come to and enjoy, whether you live in the neighbourhood or not. A condominium lined lakefront in the Beach neighbourhood is NOT something we want to see happen. We have developed a group of concerned local residents, the Beach Lakefront Neighbourhood Association Inc. (BLNA) and posted a website which fully details our concerns, support given to our cause, feedback, media etc. Please take a few moments to review the website at www.blna.net Your attendance at one of the above meetings and your offering of support of any kind will mean a lot to us. For my business contacts receiving this email, please note that we will be looking for a major sponsor for this event. It promises to receive a lot of media coverage as we plan to make this a major concert event, held in the heart of the Beach Community in our well loved "Kew Gardens". We thank you for giving this matter your kind consideration. Please RSVP this invitation to advise which date you plan to attend so that we can arrange for adequate seating. Yours truly, Harold Tabone and The BLNA Committee |
